Minimally Invasive Options
Less Invasive Cardiac Surgery
Offering the broadest array of minimally invasive cardiac surgery options in the region is a high priority at the Center for Advanced Cardiac Surgery. Our cardiac surgeons are specially trained to use the most cutting-edge medical procedures available, including robotic-assisted procedures. And, as with every procedure we offer, they are tailored specifically for each individual patient.
Advantages of minimally invasive approaches include faster recovery, less pain, reduced need for blood transfusion and better cosmetic result.
Minimally Invasive Bypass Surgery
A minimally invasive bypass surgery restores blood flow to the heart muscle by using blood vessels from other parts of the body to make a new route for blood to flow around blocked coronary (heart) arteries. During a minimally invasive bypass surgery smaller incisions are made in the chest between the ribs without dividing the breastbone.
Minimally Invasive Mitral Valve Repair
Minimally invasive mitral valve repair is the best option for many patients with degenerative mitral valve disease leading to regurgitation (leakage). Compared to valve replacement, mitral valve repair provides better outcomes leaving normally functioning tissue, which resists infection more effectively and usually eliminates the need for long-term use of blood thinners.
Minimally Invasive Aortic Valve Replacement
Minimally invasive aortic valve replacement is done when the aortic valve is not working properly. The amount of oxygen-rich blood getting out to the body can be significantly decreased with a faulty valve. Minimally invasive aortic valve surgery is done through much smaller incisions versus the traditional aortic valve replacement surgery.
