Pharmacy Residency PGY2
St. Elizabeth's Medical Center
Thank you for your interest in the post-graduate year two Infectious Disease (PGY2-ID) Pharmacy Residency Program at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. We are devoted to helping you not just survive residency, but truly succeed in this journey.
The program builds on the post-graduate year one (PGY1) experience in furthering pharmacy residents’ development as infectious disease experts. Our goal is to empower residents to function independently as leaders, educators and researchers to serve as lifelong advocates for stewardship and infectious disease services.
We have designed a program that allows you to thrive as a future academic and infectious disease pharmacy specialist, who will excel as a clinician, educator, researcher, and/or academic scholar, so that you are poised to become a leader in your chosen area.
With the guidance of our outstanding preceptors and dedicated research time, you will have the opportunity to complete and present research or scholarly projects.
Program Description
The PGY2 Infectious Disease Pharmacy Residency Program is currently accredited by ASHP. The twelve months program is designed to provide the resident with the opportunity to develop his/her clinical skills in preparation for a comprehensive practice as an infectious diseases clinical pharmacy specialist.
Residents completing the program will be competent and confident in management of adult patients with infectious diseases. The resident will have the opportunity to learn, establish, and perform evidence-based antimicrobial stewardship strategies to optimize antibiotic use throughout the hospital.
Two positions are available, one general track and one international track.
Program Purpose
The post-graduate year two (PGY2) Infectious Disease Pharmacy Residency Program builds on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, when available.
Residency Expectations
The resident is expected to satisfactorily complete all the requirements of the residency as planned. Requirements will be communicated to the resident upon acceptance to the program. This commitment includes but is not limited to the following: Active participation in direct patient care, presentations, precepting and mentoring of pharmacy students, attendance of the required meetings and programs and the willingness to participate in any functions of the Division of Pharmacy.
