Dedication to Our Community, for More Than a Century
Since its founding in 1868 in Boston’s South End, through tumult and transformation, and with its move to Brighton in 1914, St. Elizabeth's Medical Center has been a mainstay for its community members. We serve our patients and neighbors in the heart of Brighton and our surrounding communities of Allston, Boston, Brookline, Newton, Watertown, Weston, and beyond.
St. Elizabeth's was founded in the mission to deliver comprehensive, high quality, compassionate, and efficient healthcare in a community setting by assessing the unmet needs in our neighborhoods, participating on local action committees, delivering preventative care and education, and funding community-based healthcare initiatives.
Founded in a Health Equity Mission
Since our founding more than a century and a half ago, we have been driven by the mission of advancing high-quality clinical care for our communities. In its original South End location, St. Elizabeth's Medical Center was founded to address the specific medical needs of the impoverished and elderly women in Boston, and today our dedicated teams are committed to closing the gaps in access and outcomes for our most underserved patients and community members.
We are the tertiary care hospital for the Gateway Cities of Massachusetts. From the Mill Cities of the Merrimack Valley to the north, and Brockton, Fall River, and Taunton to the south, St. Elizabeth's cares for transfer patients from some of the most historically underserved regions of the state.
