U.S. News & World Report Ranks Four Boston Medical Center Specialties Among Nation’s Top 50

July 29, 2025

Boston Medical Center is recognized for its expertise and excellence in complex, high-risk clinical care and high-performing specialties, including conditions, procedures, and patient outcomes across its health system.

BOSTON Boston Medical Center (BMC) has again earned national recognition for clinical innovation and excellent patient care by U.S. News & World Report amongst the nearly 4,500 hospitals evaluated across the country. Four BMC specialties have been ranked among the top 50 in the U.S., including Geriatrics—for the second consecutive year—in addition to Cardiology, Heart & Vascular Surgery, Neurology & Neurosurgery, and Urology. Several other specialties—Cancer, Gastroenterology & GI, and Pulmonology & Lung Surgery—were recognized as high performing.

U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Hospitals rankings spotlight institutions that excel in treating complex, high-risk cases and rare conditions, while providing world-class care.

“We are proud of these rankings, particularly how they represent the breadth and depth of expert clinical care we provide to patients at BMC and across our integrated health system,” said Alastair Bell, MD, president & CEO of BMC Health System. “These recognitions reflect our continued investment in innovation and our commitment to providing comprehensive care with compassion to all.”

Within BMC Health System, all three hospitals, including Boston Medical Center – Brighton (BMC Brighton) and Boston Medical Center – South (BMC South), had conditions and procedures designated as "high performing” for excellent clinical care and patient outcomes—many related to cardiovascular and cardiometabolic conditions.

Among these, BMC Brighton’s Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery teams received high-performing designations for aortic valve surgery, heart arrhythmia, heart bypass surgery, and pacemaker implantation. The hospital is a regional leader in advanced care, offering minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgeries. It has earned the American Heart Association’s Gold Quality Achievement Award and a top three-star rating in Cardiac Surgery from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.

BMC South received high-performing designations for diabetes and heart attack. The hospital has earned the Healthgrades Coronary Intervention Excellence Award for superior angioplasty results.
